In the early 1970s, a Catholic priest and a group of community-minded individuals recognized that disadvantaged Deaf adults and children had a number of significant needs that were not being met within the social service community.

In 1975, Silent Voice Canada Inc. became incorporated federally as a not-for-profit charitable organization, and continues to this day under the name Deaf Services Canada to provide an more and more accessible programming and services responding to the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing seniors, adults, parents, youth, children, infants, and their families, in American Sign Language (ASL).

In 1981, Silent Voice Canada (now Deaf Services Canada) was accepted as a member agency of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto. As a member agency, we are held accountable to our funders, members, interest-holders, partners, and the individuals and families we serve.
